Biomass Emissions

Biomass Emissions Reduction Technology (BERT)
Stacked Air System (SAS) for Biomass Biolers Saves Fossil Fuel while Reducing Emissions

The Clyde Bergemann Anthony Ross Stacked Air System (SAS) is the cutting edge combustion technology for energy savings and emission reduction in biomass fired units. It utilizes staged low pressure faster mixing over-fire air to achieve a more uniform mixing in the furnace and improve combustion performance. The Air System utilizes an  inboard and outboard design to create dual vortices inside the furnace to intensify mixing and enhance heat transfer in the lower furnace.  The patented design also results in greater utilization of furnace volume to  increase in residence time in the combustion zone. Installing SAS is like increasing the size of the furnace, but at a fraction of the cost. With better mixing, more effective utilization of the furnace area and  improved temperature profile, the result is higher thermal and combustion efficiencies, along with reduced emissions.

Enhanced mixing by the Clyde Bergemann Anthony Ross Stacked Air System in the over-fire zone creates faster combustion in the lower furnace. The more effective use of the entire furnace cross section results in increased heat transfer. The net result is a hotter lower furnace and cooler upper furnace — the ideal situation (see below). In addition to all the other benefits, this reduces unburned carbon in the bottom ash and flyash, reduced CO/combustibles in the flue gas and reduced excess. This all contributed to the increased thermal efficiency. Clyde Bergemann Anthony Ross Computational Fluid Dynamics modeling of each boiler will provide a customized location of the over-fire air ports to optimize combustion and reduce emissions.
